윔피키드 Diary of a Wimpy Kid 매직북클럽 Day 8

전세계 초등학생을 사로잡은 그레그의 학교생활 이야기, 한번 빠지면 헤어나오기 힘든 마성의 일기장 윔피키드입니다. 실생활에서 바로 사용할 수 있는 구어체 표현들이 많아 어른들이 읽으며 영어회화를 배우기에도 더없이 좋은 원서입니다. 구동사에 신경쓰며 원서리딩을 해 봅니다.

Day 8(76-89p)


*clean 일반적인 청소나 정리

If there's one thing boys in my school are into, it's professional wrestling.
*might as well (어차피/기왕 이렇게 된거) ~하는 것이 좋다, (그냥) ~나 해야겠다, (차라리)~하는 편이 낫다
So Mr. Underwood might as well have set off a bomb.(77p)

-렌트카, 하우스 렌트... 빌릴 때 모두 비용을 지불해야 함

-내 쪽으로 물건이 오는 것(비용발생하지 않음, 그렇지만 돌려줘야 함)

After a while, I was really starting to get the hang of it.(78p)

Athlete of the Month for being the best player in the basketball unit, so they put his picture up in the hallway.(79p)

Well, I found out today that the kind of wrestling Mr. Underwood is teaching is COMPLETELY different from the kind of they do on TV.(80p)
올림픽 레슬링과 TV에서 하는 레슬링은 완전히 다르죠. 그 차이를 설명하고 있어요.

It's just basically a sweaty mat that smells like it's never been washed before.(80p)

But then I found out who I did have to wrestle, and I would have traded for Benny Wells in a heartbeat.

장소를 나타낼 때 
▶ in 국가, 대도시.., 
    그 공간, 물리적 공간을 강조할 때만 사용
‘어떤 공간 안에 있는’을 강조할 때만 ‘enclosed’ 갇혀있는 공간에 사용

▶ at <공간> 어떤 특정 지점을 중심으로 그 인근, 주변 즉 ‘surrounding area’ 주변 공간까지 다 아우르는 포괄적인 위치를 말함, 특히 천장같은 것이 없는 상황에서는 더더욱 at을 사용해야 함 / 특정 지점을 가리킴(특히 나이 같은 것을 얘기할 때 at age 5)

그 외는 모두 at을 사용해야 함
