Day 13(42-44/141-151p)

*for the sake ~을 위하여, ~을 위한 목적으로

That day Gon bought several more magazines for the sake of "collecting" the classics.

*reiterate [riˈɪtəreɪt] (이미 한 말을,강조하기 위해) 반복하다[되풀이하다]

I reiterated that this was a bookstore, not a rental store.

*conservative [kən|sɜːrvətɪv] 보수적인, 보수주의의

*too far from one's taste ...의 취향에서 너무 멀다

*push one's further 더 밀어붙이다, 더 추진하다

There's hardly any magazines left with pages of Brooke Shields intact, especially in her prime.

From her early career to her prime.

How on earth can a human look like this. 어째서 이렇게 사람이 보일 수 있지.

*with one's mouth agape (놀람·충격으로 입을) 벌어진

*jolt 충격을 주다[정신이 번쩍 들게 하다], 갑자기 거칠게 움직이다

He clicked on her pictures one by one with his mouth agape, but then suddenly jolted.

My fantasies are shattered now. I shouldn't have seen this.

No one can stop time, and people go through a lot in life.

*vent (감정을) 터뜨리다, 분출하다

That day, Gon vented at Brooke and me alternately, then he left without buying anything.

"Anyway, I was looking over her pictures, and it got me thinking."

Gon burst out laughing. Hahahahaha. I counted five ha's split in one breath. What was so funny about my response?

I got tongue-tied.

I tried to come up with a response that wouldn't get on his nerves.

It reminds me of how everything beautiful will fade eventually.

 He brought it back a few days later, telling me to cut the bullshit, but I thought the recommendation still made sense.

The days were slipping by and it was already early May.

The unfamiliarity of a new semester fades away by this time. 새 학기의 생소함은 이때쯤 사라진다.

Absently, I watched the drops of blood dripping down on the floor like sealing wax.

The cut must've been deeper than I'd thought. 

"Don't you know how to take care of yourself?"

"It hurt, but it was manageable."

"You were gushing blood, you call that manageable?

The butterfly's feelers bent whichever way, its body writhing hard.

Gon was grasping its wings, but he looked away.

Gon stretched the wings farther apart, his eyes still looking elsewhere.

I said I'll let go of this if you really feel something."

I knew Gon was more than capable of making good on his threats.

 Just like on the day when he kept stomping me down at the incinerator.

*thrash [θræʃ] 몸부림치다, 요동치다;(벌로서 매로) 때리다 (=beat)

*thrashing 몸부림치는, 허둥대는

*for dear life 죽어라고[필사적으로]

The bug was expressing pain with its entire body. Thrashing back and forth, left and right, fighting for its dear life.

Jack held on for dear life as they split the wind.(매트하 10-6/47p)

Was it pleading with us to stop, or trying its very best to survive? 우리에게 그만하라고 애원하는 걸까, 아니면 최선을 다해 살려고 하는 걸까? 

*pure instinct 순수한 본능

*triggered by the senses 감각에 의해 유발된

*with all one's might 전력을 다하여, 힘껏

 Gon hurled the butterfly to the floor and stomped on it with all his might.

With all his might, Jack held on to Annie and pulled her along.(매트하 23-7/51p)
