Mom opened her eyes. After nine months in bed. The doctors said there was no need to be excited.

When she was awake, though, her eyes would rest on the ceiling, blinking.

"프로필"이라는 단어는 주로 어떤 개체나 사물의 측면이나 옆 얼굴을 의미합니다.

하지만 "프로필 사진을 찍다"라고 할 때는 정면 얼굴을 찍는 것이 일반적입니다. 이는 언어상의 관례로서 "프로필 사진"이라고 하면 보통 정면 얼굴 사진을 떠올리게 되기 때문입니다. 때로는 언어적 표현이 실제 의미와는 조금 다를 수 있습니다.

Her strides were quite wide, considering that she was jumping in place.

Dora had been walking with her hands clasped behind her back when she whipped around.

People's eyes light up when they talk about things they love. Dora's were radiant. 사람들은 자신이 좋아하는 걸 애기할 때 눈이 빛난다. 도라의 눈도 빛이 났다.

But her eyes were extinguished at once.

Let's be honest, we just live because we're alive. When things are great we're happy, and when things aren't, we cry.

Same with running.

They tell me I'm no Usain Bolt, so why bother running.

The corners of her mouth drooped.

Before, they said if I wanted to be an athlete so much, I should play golf because at least it has a chance of making money.

It was their choice to have me, but that doesn't mean that I have to accomplish the missions they've set up.

They keep threatening me that I'll regret this, but even if I do regret it, that's my choice to make.

Math was my strongest subject, followed by science and social studies, which were okay. 

Why were the authors' motives kept hidden so well?

*grasp the context 맥락을 이해하다

*reasoning [ˈriːzənɪŋ] 추리, 추론

*reasoning skill 추론 능력

*intellect [ˈɪntəlekt] 지적 능력, 지력, 지적 능력이 뛰어난 사람

Because you can't grasp the context, your reasoning skills are poor and so is your intellect. 

맥락을 파악할 수 없기 때문에 추론 능력이 떨어지고 지적 능력 역시 떨어진다.

*best at 가장 잘 하는

It was the subject I wanted to be best at, but it was my worst.

*clearing out 비우기, 정리하기

*get rid of 없애다, 제거하다

All I needed to do was get rid of the books but it was no easy task.

I needed to check their conditions so that I could post them on a bartering website.

I had no idea we had so many books in the store. Countless thoughts, stories, and studies were piled up on every shelf.

Maybe forever out of my reach.

It was still high summer, on a sunny day, but for some reason there were fallen leaves everywhere in sight.
