영어원서 Almond 매직북클럽 Day 6

 
 Almond 
아몬드는 감정표현불능증을 가지고 있는 청소년 주인공의 1인칭 시점으로 진행되는 소설입니다. 

영어공부를 하기 좋은 방법 중의 하나가 바로 영어원서를 읽는 것입니다. 모든 언어를 배우는데 있어 독서는 빼놓을 수 없는 영역입니다. 특히 1인칭 시점으로 기술되는 영어원서를 읽는 것은 영어 초중급자들의 영어실력 향상에 도움이 됩니다.

I realized then that Mom had made such preparations in case I was left alone at any time.

As soon as I hit send, I got a reply:

There was still some time before school started up again. I had to get used to living on my own by then.

One day a lady who ran a kids' book club in the neighborhood came in.

*knit one's brows 눈살을 찌푸리다, 얼굴을 찡그리다

She gaped at me, then knitted her brows in a heavy frown. 
Mom gaped at Granny, who had now drawn her face close to mine, smiling.

"I know kids your age can joke around, but this is simply not acceptable. Your grandma would be so hurt to hear that."

It's that massacre from the news.

She crossed herself and turned to leave in a hurry.

+) Even though people who have been living in the U.S. for years couldn't speak English well, it didn't make sense to me before I lived in the States. Now it totally makes sense to me.

Mom was flustered when I said this to her.
